HOW LIFE BUCKETS WORKS

A STEP-BY-STEP APPROACH

The Life Buckets tool is comprised of individual buckets that can be labeled to reflect specific life matters that the client is facing at the time of the session.

Prior to session, apply a single dry erase label on each individual bucket (once applied leave in place).

While in the session, place each bucket on solid surface (table, desk, floor, etc.).

Use included dry erase markers to write on the labels to indicate the key issues that the client identifies as significant areas of concern (i.e. Job, Family, School, etc.).

During the discussion, the facilitator can notate individually identified issues which can be referred to in future session(s).

As dialogue proceeds, the client will place a single ball representing an aspect of the identified issue into the applicable bucket. After it is determined that the client has disclosed the desired number of issues, pull the bucket with the highest quantity of balls to the front. Note: all empty buckets can be removed from surface or floor.

Referring to the notes, work with the client to discuss the individual issues represented by each ball within the bucket. Then discuss possible solutions for the client’s primary issue.

If time permits, move to the bucket with the next highest quantity of balls (repeat if time permits).

Use included microfiber cloth to clean each label before the next use.

BUILDING CONFIDENCE THROUGH RESULTS

Life Buckets effectiveness is evidenced by its ability to allow client issues to be translated into a tangible representation for the purpose of highlighting, labeling, processing through dialogue, and creating viable solutions for each presenting problem.

Results of the use of the tool will vary persontoperson but can include but are not limited to relief from depression symptoms, decrease in anxiety, increased problemsolving skills, and improved decisionmaking capabilities for the client. In addition, the mental health professional benefits from achieving a more direct person- centered, strengthsbased approach for working with a diverse demographic of clients
