How life buckets work

A step-by-step approach

The Life Buckets tool is comprised of individual buckets that can be labeled to reflect specific life matters that the client is facing at the time of the session.

  • The client will begin to place balls into each bucket while contemplating/discussing the various challenges within their life

  • Identify Issues – the buckets could be labeled as family, friends, relationship, school, work, finances, health, children, parents, etc.

  • Define Challenges – which bucket has the most balls

  • Discussion – create a dialogue with the client for the purpose of gaining clarity.

  • Strategy – develop next steps

Building confidence through results

Life Buckets effectiveness is evidenced by its ability to allow client issues to be translated into a tangible representation for the purpose of highlighting, labeling, processing through dialogue, and creating viable solutions for each presenting problem.

Results of the use of the tool will vary person-to-person but can include but are not limited to relief from depression symptoms, decrease in anxiety, increased problem-solving skills, and improved decision-making capabilities for the client. In addition, the mental health professional benefits from achieving a more direct person-centered, strengths-based approach for working with a diverse demographic of clients.
